CBCT has revolutionised imaging capabilities in dentistry, no more so than in the field of endodontics, where the restraints of two-dimensional imaging give rise to best guess diagnoses and the need for invasive techniques to truly understand internal complexities of the root canal system and surrounding anatomy.

Richard Kahan has used CBCT in specialist endodontic practice since 2008, and taken over 3000 limited volume scans for endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. It has revolutionised his endodontic practice, leading to the development of new skills and techniques through guided and targeted endodontics.

Jackie Brown is a oral and maxillofacial specialist radiologist working in Kings, Guy’s and St Thomas’.

Like any new revolutionary technology, CBCT has a steep learning curve and this one-day course is designed for Specialist Endodontists, General Practitioners with a Special Interest in Endodontics, and any General Practitioner thinking about buying a CBCT unit or who has one in his practice and wants a greater understanding of its endodontic uses.

The course will provide you with a knowledge and understanding of:

  • The scientific basis of Cone Beam CT.
  • CBCT dosimetry and radiation considerations in the use of CBCT.
  • Current legal requirements in the use of CBCT.
  • Normal anatomy and disease as imaged using limited volume CBCT for endodontics.
  • CBCT software*, artefacts, and how best to view scans.
  • Comparative scan assessment and creating a virtual periapical for endodontic review
  • Endodontic diagnosis and treatment planning using limited volume CBCT, introducing targeted and guided endodontics.
  • The small group course will include presentations, practical-based on-line documentation, and practical hands-on sessions in which participants will be able to view and manipulate scans on supplied PCs**, and discuss their observations.

* The software used for training will be the exported Morita software – one volume viewer.

** Participants may bring in their own PC laptop or tablet running Windows operating system.
