What is Laser-assisted Root Canal Therapy?

Traditional treatments involve using a small file a clean out decayed and infected material in the insides of your tooth (the root canals). Because these canals are highly irregular in shape, it is almost impossible to remove all the infected material, let alone the biofilm that enters into the tiny pores within the canals.

SWEEPS (Shock Wave Enhanced Emission Photoacoustic Streaming) is a revolutionary method for cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system, utilising the power of the Er:YAG laser to create powerful, deeply penetrating shockwaves within the cleaning and debriding solutions in the root canal. SWEEPS promises to represent an entirely new way of thinking about root-canal therapy. With SWEEPS, we are able to offer patients faster, safer and more effective root-canal treatments. The new Resonant R-SWEEPS® delivers the highest possible laser-activated irrigation efficacy, significantly enhances the effective flushing action of SWEEPS® and increases pressure generation along the root canal without increasing the risk of apical extrusion.
