PULP FICTION

Volume 5 | September 2025

The Editor's Cut

Welcome back to the next chapter of Pulp Fiction, Volume 5! We’re somewhat surprised we’ve made it this far, and our initial pessimism has led to a creative block. Pulp Fiction alone no longer provides the rich source of visual inspiration it once did, and so we’re expanding our selection criteria to include all of Tarantino’s filmography.

This edition explores a landscape where precision meets provocation, where deep-tech meets citrus, and where digital marketing isn’t just about likes but about legacy.

Please enjoy, and remember to stay till the end to complete a brief quiz and earn some well-deserved CPD points.

View from the Roof

- Journal Dossier

In August 2022, I fell of my roof at home and ruined a perfectly good body. You would have thought that many months of paralysis from the waist down would be a time for deep inner reflection and a chance to emerge reborn as a wonderful human being. Sadly, that was not the case. I got better and I am still a cynical, miserable bastard.

Here are possibly less-than-glowing reviews of some recent articles in the International Endodontic Journal.

The Root of All Trouble

A pulp thriller with Jules Winfeld, featuring external resorption, dodgy radiographs, and ethical dilemmas galore

This latest dispatch from Endo Academy’s pulp detective dives into the enigma of dental resorption — the slow, silent mothership of tooth destruction. With philosophical swagger and clinical insight, Jules walks us through diagnosis, treatment, and the ethical minefield of trying to save a disappearing root. Bring your cortex and your curiosity. You’ll need both.

Instagram Case Studies

Endodontic education meets Instagram-worthy content. David and Richard are back with two case studies that’ll make you look twice before doom-scrolling.

A perplexing LL5 with vague symptoms and a radiolucency that played hide and seek. Initial tests didn’t match the radiograph, and even CBCT left room for debate. But after careful exploration, disinfection, and bioceramic obturation, the true culprit was revealed — and resolved. A slow burner with a satisfying close.

Fifteen years post-RCT, LL6 wasn’t done yet. A chronic sinus and sneaky apical resorption pushed the limits. But with laser-assisted disinfection, calcium hydroxide, and a bioceramic plug, the team brought the case back from the brink. Precision planning, sharp execution — and no scalpel in sight.

Digital Marketing in 2025

What Smart Dental Practices Are Doing Differently

If you’ve ever had a marketer try to sell you “full-funnel omnichannel amplification strategies”, you’re not alone. And we’re sorry you had to go through that.

In this article, Sam Chambers, the founder of BRANDEYE.AM, a digital agency specialised in working with medical practices, associations and training programmes, simplifies how to attract, convert, and retain the customers you want.

CPD Quiz - Now Live

As always, we’ve included a short CPD quiz at the end of this volume to help you reflect, review, and earn your points without the tedium. Whether you breeze through or need a second pass (we won’t tell), it’s a chance to sharpen your thinking and reinforce the clinical insights from this issue.
